For a feature plant in a shady or sheltered area within the backyard and even for indoors, you can't look past the Bromeliad. All arising from the same household (Bromeliaceous) there are a variety of bromeliads to select from.

They present nice foliage color and form to the backyard, can grow in trees and even produce fruit! Easy to develop and propagate they are a will need to have for the avid or newbie gardener… They like full solar, regular watering, well drained/sandy soil, and are appropriate for all climatic zones.

Choose a spot within the backyard that receives filtered solar and has well-drained soil. In poorly drained areas, create an elevated mound for free-draining soil or chunky orchid mix. Dig a hole within the ready mounds the identical dimension as the root ball.

Holding the principle physique of the plant with one hand, gently backfill the hole, pushing the soil beneath and across the roots in order that the plant is sitting excessive on the mound. If the plant is unstable, you need to use some supports corresponding to stones or pots to carry it upright whereas its roots settle in.

Water in properly. Ensure that you just additionally place some water into the central part of the plant, as that is the place they draw in further moisture as nicely. Food each spring and autumn with Dynamic lifter soil improver and plant fertiliser by applying across the root zone and water in properly.
